HOUSTON (CBS Houston) According to police in a Dallas suburb, George Zimmerman was stopped for speeding.
Forney police stated that Zimmerman was stopped Sunday while driving west on U.S. 80, about 20 miles east of Dallas. He was acquitted earlier this month by a Florida jury in the fatal shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.
A police dashcam video released on Wednesday shows an officer speaking to Zimmerman and recognizing him. In the video, the officer returns to his patrol car with Zimmerman’s driver’s license to check for outstanding warrants. The officer then returns Zimmerman’s license to him and tells him to slow down on his speed.
It was not clear, at the time of this report how fast Zimmerman was driving.
A spokesman for Zimmerman’s legal team was reportedly perplexed as to why a routine traffic stop invloving his client would become national news.
