Hundreds of state university and community college students turned out Wednesday at Eastern Connecticut State University as the Board of Regents voted in favor of tuition hikes.
In-state commuter students at state universities will pay a 5.1 percent increase starting next fall. Community college students will have to pay a 5.25-percent hike. The board voted 12-2 in favor of the increases, with the “no” votes coming from the two student members of the board.
At the student rally, the head of the Connecticut Students Organization, John Farrar, says they’ve had enough of tuition hikes. He accused the state of ignoring the state university system.
