Majority of RNC events delayed by one day

TAMPA, Fla. (WTVR) – According to Reuters, the Republican National Committee chairman announced Saturday evening that they will postpone most events planned for Monday’s convention by one day.

Chairman Reince Priebus released a statement saying the convention will start on Monday but then will resume Tuesday afternoon.

The purpose of the convention is to officially nominate Mitt Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, as the presidential and vice presidential candidates to go against President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in November’s election.

The Associated Press reported that Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency and canceled his plans to attend Sunday and Monday’s events.  He also gave a media briefing informing convention attendees how to stay safe during a storm.  The governor said he was communicating with local, state and federal agencies, as well as convention officials to prepare for Isaac.
