Zimmerman’s Prosecutors Want Evidence To Be Kept Private

CBS Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – George Zimmerman’s prosecutor and attorney are trying to alter the old saying: “what’s done in the dark will eventually come to light”.

Motions were filed Thursday asking a judge to keep pieces of evidence out of the public until trial.

Prosecutors and Zimmerman’s attorney would like for the statements Zimmerman gave detectives and the names as well as addresses of witnesses from being publicly released. Normally, under Florida law, both items would be public record.

That’s not all. Zimmerman’s attorney also wants to keep private text messages, emails and journal entries private, at least until he can review them.

Prosecutors asked that Martin’s cell phone records not be released publicly.

Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder for fatally shooting 17-year-old Martin during a confrontation in Sanford last February.

He pled not guilty and claims self-defense.
